Dear student,
-There was dissatisfaction against the monarchy in France in 1789. As the treasury was insufficient, the King levied for more taxes.
-On 5 May 1789, the king ordered an assembly of the estates general to charge new taxes. Members of the third estate insisted one vote for each member but the king refused.
-On 20 June 1789, these members gathered in the grounds of Versailles and acknowledged themselves a national assembly i.e. as representative for entire France.
-When the Bastille prison was taken in July, Louis XVI gave recognition to the National assembly and accepted that his powers will be limited by the constitution.
-On 4 August 1789, the Assembly passed an announcement eliminating the out-dated system of taxes and in 1791, National Assembly finalized the draft of the constitution, in which powers were not focussed in the hands of one person, they were divided between the legislature, executive and judiciary.
