The Peninsular Plateau of India is composed of old crystalline, igneous and metamorphic rocks. It is the oldest part of the Indian subcontinent and was formed due to the drifting of the ancient supercontinent of Gondwanaland.
Two features of the plateau are
1. It is bounded by the Western and Eastern ghats.
2. It has broad and shallow river valleys formed by rivers like Narmada, Godavari, Krishna and Tungabhadra.
