General characteristics of phylum Annelida:

  1. These are bilaterally symmetrical and triploblastic as well.
  2. These creatures may be found in a range of settings, including freshwater, saltwater, and land.
  3. They can also be found in wet soils.
  4. They might be either unisexual or hermaphrodite.
  5. The body is elongated and separated into compartments inside by septa and externally by grooves into segments by rings termed metamerism or annuli.
  6. A thin cuticle covers the body.
  7. Circular and longitudinal muscles are found in the body wall.
  8. They have a genuine body cavity, known as a coelom, which permits actual organs to be packaged inside the body framework.
  9. Examples: Earthworm, Leeches, Lugworms, and Polychaetes.
