Explain the harmful effect of various air pollutants.
The presence of unusual things in the atmosphere in higher concentrations is called air pollution.
The harmful effects of various air pollutants are as follows:
Dust particles
Dust particles may vary from place to place and time to time and if a higher concentration of it is present in the environment it will cause many types of respiratory disorders.
Suspended particulates matter
These particles produce allergic reactions in the human body and aggravate diseases like bronchitis.
Smoke kind of thing present in the environment that attacks our lungs and causes many respiratory disorders.
The minute particles formed by the burning of coal called fly ash cause irritation eyes, skin, throat, nose, and respiratory tract.
Sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide
Sulfur dioxide causes respiratory disorders and sometimes permanent lung damage. Nitrogen oxides attack the breathing system and lead to lung congestion.
Carbon dioxide(CO2)
This cant is said as pollution when present in its normal concentration but when its concentration increases it causes global warming( Global warming is a phenomenon in which the temperature of the earth increases).
Carbon monoxide
The efficiency of our blood is very high for carbon monoxide as compared to carbon dioxide so once it is attached to hemoglobin it causes suffocation and if this will continue for a long it will cause the death of an organism.
Chlorofluro carbon (CFCs)
This gas reaches the stratosphere and there causes depletion of ozone due to which many types of cancers like skin cancers, and eye cancers are increasing.
