In simple terms, deforestation is referred to as the determined clearance of forest land, it results in a decrease in the forest areas for various purposes.

Cause of deforestation:

  1. Clearing areas under the forest for agricultural purposes.
  2. Industrialization and urbanization.
  3. Extraction of wood for making furniture or as fuel.
  4. Natural calamities such as forest fire and drought also cause deforestation.
  5. Mining also causes deforestation.

Ill effects of deforestation:

  1. Major climate change: Increase in temperature and pollution level.
  2. Desertification and soil erosion.
  3. Increase in the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
  4. Decrease in groundwater level.
  5. Loss of food and habitat of animals which leads to their extinction.
