  • The most fertile soil is the alluvial soil.
  • Alluvial soil has been deposited by flowing rivers.
  • It generally consists of minute particles of soil of various kinds mixed with salts and other minerals, and contains animal and vegetable matters in a state of complete decay. It has adequate amount of phosphoric acid, potash and lime.
  • Hence is very extensively used for agriculture..
  • It is found in the areas of northern plains beginning from Punjab to West Bengal and Assam and also in the deltas of Krishna, Godavari, Cauvery and Mahanadi in peninsular India.
