Explain the intake stroke of a petrol engine.

The intake event is when the air-fuel mixture is introduced to fill the combustion chamber. In a petrol engine the vapourised mixture of petrol and air is let in through the inlet valve. The outlet valve remains closed. Piston moves away from the spark plug.
