The distance covered or travelled by a body in unit time is called the speed of a body.
$\text{Speed}=\frac{\text{Distance travelled}}{\text{Time taken}}$

In the S.I. system, distance is measured in metre(𝑚) and time measured in second (𝑠).
So, the S.I. unit of speed is metre/second (m/s).
