Question
Explain the mechanism of working of a fuse?

Solution
An electrical fuse is a safety device that operates to provide protection against the overflow of current in an electrical circuit.
The fuse wire is chosen such that it has a low melting point.
When a large current flows through the circuit, the fuse wire gets heated up due to the heating effect of the current and melts.
Due to the melting of the fuse wire, the circuit is broken and the current ceases to flow through the circuit.
In this way, the fuse wire helps to protect the devices from getting damaged due to excessive current.
