Solution

Part 1: Methods of separation - Handpicking, Filtration, and Evaporation

Handpicking - It is a method used for separating components that can be differentiated by color, size, and shape.

Filtration - Filtration is technically defined as the process of separating suspended solid matter from a liquid by passing it through the pores of a membrane known as a filter.

Evaporation - It is a process of conversion of liquid into its vapors, even before reaching its boiling point.

Part 2: Procedure to separate them

  • At first, spread the mixture into a big plate, and handpick the marble particles.
  • After this, sand and common salt will remain behind in the mixture.
  • For the separation of sand from the common salt, add some water to it.
  • Now, filter the solution using filter paper, the sand particles which are insoluble in nature will be left as residue, and the salt solution will filter as filtrate.
  • That's how sand is separated from the salt solution.
  • Take the solution on a china dish and heat it till all the water evaporates.
  • A white solid will be left on the china dish, which can be sun-dried to get the common salt.
