Explain the nature of Light and Sound waves.

Light is a type of electromagnetic wave which can travel without any medium. In electromagnetic waves particles oscillate up and down about their mean position as the wave travels. So it is also a transverse wave.

Sound is a mechanical wave that requires a medium for propagation. The disturbance is transfered from one particle to next, hence the requirement of medium. In these waves, the individual particles of the medium move parallel to the direction of propagation of disturbance. Hence, they are also called Longitudinal waves.
