Question

Explain the organs of excretion in earthworm, starfish and butterfly.

Open in App
Solution

In earthworm, the nitrogenous wastes are excreted out of the body by special excretory organs called nephridia (singular nephridium). A Nephridium is tubular coiled structure. It starts with a rounded funnel-shaped structure called nephrostome. In the butterfly, specialized excretory organs are Malpighian tubules. These tubules pick the material from hemolymph and carry them to the rectum of the butterfly. Starfish have no distinct excretory organs, waste ammonia is removed by diffusion through the tube feet and papulae.
So, the correct answer is 'Specialized excretory organs-Nephridia-Malphigian tubules- Absent'.
