Ethane when heated in the presence of conc. H2SO4 or H3PO4 at 443K temperature results in the formation of ethane. As a molecule of water is removed during the reaction, this reaction is known as the dehydration of alcohol.
CH3CH2OHEthanol443K→[H2SO4]OR[H3PO4]CH2=CH2Ethene+H2O
