Question

Explain the principle behind the centrifugation technique.

Open in App
Solution

Centrifugation is used to separate the components of a colloid (such as milk) based on their density difference using a centrifuge. Mixture is spun rapidly in a centrifuge where the components get separated. The less dense component (such as milk fat) forms the top layer while the more dense component (such as skim milk) forms bottom layer.
