Solution
Geothermal Energy is the energy that is generated from the heat within the Earth. [1 Mark]
Due to geological changes, molten rocks formed in the deeper hot regions of earth’s crust are pushed upward and trapped in certain regions called ‘hot spots’. When underground water comes in contact with the hot spot, steam is generated. Sometimes hot water from that region finds outlets at the surface. Such outlets are known as hot springs. [1 Mark]
This steam, which is confined to the region between the rocks, is brought out by drilling pipes through the rocks. Using this steam turbine is rotated to generate electricity. [1 Mark]
