Solution

  1. Energy can be developed in various forms.
  2. These forms include wind energy, hydro energy, solar energy, chemical energy, and thermal energy.
  3. This hydro energy is derived from the hydroelectric power plant.
  4. Energy derived from the flowing water is said to be hydroelectricity.
  5. This method uses the water that is stored in the dam to generate electricity.
  6. The water stored in the dam is used to rotate the turbines using the potential energy.
  7. Dam is placed in the area where there is a large amount of water flowing, mostly rivers.
  8. This dam collects water and sends it to the turbine.
  9. The turbine is a device that converts mechanical energy into electrical energy.
  10. The turbine is connected by a shaft and this is connected to the generator.
  11. The water falling in the turbine will rotate the turbine blades and therefore electrical energy is generated.
  12. The energy conversion taking place in a hydroelectric power station is :

Potential energy ⇒ Kinetic energy ⇒ Mechanical energy ⇒ Electrical energy
