Explain the principle used in Scanning electron microscope?

In a scanning electron microscope a beam of electrons is bombarded onto a specimen which thinly sliced and fixed with the help of a conductive gum. An electron gun is for a creating a beam of electrons that scans the specimen in a raster fashion to produce an image of the topography of the specimen.
