Question

Explain the process by which the transfer of heat by convection occurs ?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Convection of heat occurs when heat is transferred in the liquid and gases from a region of higher temperature to a region of lower temperatures.
  2. Liquid and gases are bad conductors of heat.
  3. When liquids and gases are heated, they expand, become less dense, and rise.
  4. Molecules from colder areas flow downwards to occupy their place.
  5. These molecules get heated and rise.
  6. This continuous process results in the formation of a current called convection current.
  7. The process by which heat is transmitted in liquids and gases by actual movement is called convection.
