Solution

Blood circulation:

  1. All organisms need water, food and respiratory gases to survive
  2. They are transported via a well- organized transportation system. Transportation in animals takes place with the help of circulatory system.
  3. Circulatory system consists of the heart, blood and blood vessels.
  4. In humans, blood flows through arteries and veins and the heart acts as a pumping organ.
  5. Humans have a type of circulation called double circulation wherein the heart receives the blood twice to complete one full round of circulation.
  6. Double circulation comprises the pulmonary and systemic circuit.
  7. Systemic circuit: Circulation of blood between heart and lungs.
  8. Pulmonary circuit: Circulation of blood between heart and other body parts.

Process of blood circulation:

  1. Deoxygenated blood from the body cells are carried by the veins to the heart.
  2. The right auricle receives the blood and pumps it (through the tricuspid valves) into the right ventricle.
  3. From here, pulmonary artery transports it to the lungs where it gets oxygenated.
  4. From the lungs the oxygenated blood is carried by the pulmonary veins to the left auricle, which then pumps the oxygenated blood (through the mitral valves) into the left ventricle of the heart.
  5. The systemic arteries (aorta) originating from the left ventricle circulate the oxygenated blood throughout the body parts.
