Solution
Copper matte is charged in to Bessemer convertor. Hot air blast is blown to convert Cu2S to metallic copper. 2Cu2S+3O2→2Cu2O+2SO2
2Cu2O+Cu2S→6Cu+SO2
Some Cu2S is oxidized to Cu2O. The reaction between Cu2S and Cu2O gives metallic copper. The process is auto reduction. The solidified copper obtained has blisters on the surface due to the evolution of SO2. It is about 99% pure.
