Explain the process of the formation of petroleum.

Formation of petroleum:-

1. Petroleum is formed from the remains of organisms that are buried deep inside the crust of our earth for millions of years.
2. These organisms are of various types like plants and animals and they got decomposed slowly over the course of time.
3. Due to extreme pressure and heat and also due to lack of air, these remains got transformed into petroleum.
4. Petroleum is formed over millions of years but also our rate of usage of this petroleum is higher than its rate of formation.
5. Hence we can call them as non-renewable resources.

Therefore, due to the high heat and temperature, the dead organism that are buried inside the crust of the earth gets transformed into petroleum over millions of years.
