Explain the relation between vapour density and molecular mass.
Step 1: Vapour density (V.D.) = mass of ‘x’ volume of a gas / mass of equal volume of hydrogen
Step 2: Relative molecular mass is the ratio of the mass of one molecule of a substance to the 1/12th of mass of a carbon atom, or 1 amu.
Vapour density is the ratio of the mass of volume of a gas, to the mass of an equal volume of hydrogen, measured under the same conditions of temperature and pressure.
Molecular Mass = 2 ✕ Vapour Density
Therefore, Molecular Mass = 2 ✕ Vapour Density
