Question

Explain the relationship between absorption of water and transpiration.

Open in App
Solution

Relationship between absorption of water and transpiration.

  1. Plants absorb water and minerals through the roots from the surrounding.
  2. The absorption of water occurs due to various forces.
  3. When the water is lost through transpiration, force is created which leads to the absorption of water.
  4. Transpiration is the process of loss of water in the form of water vapour from the aerial parts of the plant.
  5. Due to transpiration, a force is created which causes the water to move upward from the roots of the plant by the xylem.
  6. This force is called as transpirational pull.
  7. Water travels against the gravity from the roots to the upper parts.
  8. In tall trees, water is conducted upwards through this force called transpirational pull.
  9. Thus, transpiration helps in assisting transportation in plants.
