Explain the role of FSH in the control of the menstrual cycle.

In the bleeding phase of menstrual cycle i.e day 1-5, FSH levels are low when the there is complete degeneration of corpus luteum and collapse of endometruim. During the reduction of uterine bleeding the FSH levels increases . FSH levels are high in pre ovulatory phase, in this phase formation of stratum functionalis takes place. FSH levels are somewhat low when the uterine thickness reaches to its maximum.
