Question

Explain the role of monsoons in the agricultural practices of India.

Open in App
Solution

Indian agriculture is dependent to a large extent on the monsoons, which are uncertain, irregular and unequally distributed. Nearly 55 percent of the net sown area continues to depend on rainfall rather than irrigation. That is why when rains fail agricultural production is badly affected, resulting in scarcity of foodgrains.
