• The Palayakkarars were individuals who used to hold a little part of the kingdom as a feudatory under a greater sovereign. These little parts of the kingdom were known as Palayam.
• They were free to collect revenue, administer the region, settle disputes and maintain law and order. Padikaval or Arasu Kaval were the police duties they performed in Palayams.
• Further, it is known on many occasions that the Palayakarrars helped the Nayak kings to restore the kingdom.
