Phloem is a type of vascular bundle and the plant transport tissues. Its main function is the transport of organic food material from leaves to stem and roots in a downward direction.
Phloem contains elements like companion cell, phloem parenchyma, phloem blast fibres. Their main function is to translocate the food material from one path to another phloem parenchyma.
The phloem acts as the source and all the plant tissue acts as a sink that receives the food material.
