  2. It is attached to the embryo through the umbilical cord.
  3. The placenta helps develop the embryo by providing nutrients and oxygen from the mother's blood.
  4. It also helps in the excretion of waste from the fetus.
  5. The placenta provides a barrier to the developing embryo against the pathogenic organisms.
