The role of a satellite in the early warning system is as follows:
i) Satellites are used in disasters for communication, remote sensing and mapping.
ii) Meteorological and storm warning satellite technology can help in predicting disasters and setting up precautionary activities.

The use of satellites in disaster management is becoming very integral in reducing reaction time and providing accurate information for rescue and disaster control operations. If the people are informed well in advance about the disasters, the residents will have enough time to evacuate, and less number of people will be affected.The use of satellite communications provides weather-endangered coastal areas of India with an early warning system for cyclones.
