Explain the role of social inequality as a main challenge to democracy.

Social inequality implies inequalities based on caste, class gender etc. If such inequalities exist in democracy then democracy cannot be successful. It poses a threat to democracy because it will lead to clashes and conflicts among different social groups leading to unrest and instability in society. Under such a situation, democracy cannot thrive because democracy is based on the principles of equality and peace. Such inequalities will lead to war or revolution in future.
