Explain the role of tapetum in the formation of pollen-grain wall.

The tapetum is the inner most layer of the microsporangial wall that secretes precursors of sporopollenin which in turn forms sporopollenin as well as provides nourishment to the developing pollen grains. Pollen exine is then laid down by deposition of sporopollenin.
