Explain the scalar product of two vectors.

Open in App
Solution

Scalar Product of Vectors:

  1. The dot product or scalar product of two vectors A and B, denoted by A.B, is defined as the product of the magnitudes of A and B and the cosine of the angle θ between them.
  2. In symbols, A.B=ABcosθ, 0θπ
  3. From the name itself, we can understand that the product is a scalar quantity and hence has only magnitude and no direction.
