Solution

Instructions:
  • Explain each horizon of soil.
Solution:
  • There are five horizons in soil, they are O, A, B, C and R.
    • Horizon O- this is the topmost organic layer and is called the humus layer.
    • Horizon A- it consists of organic matter; leaf litter and decomposed animal remains. This layer is rich in nutrients and is good for crops.
    • Horizon B- it is called subsoil. It contains clay and has rich deposits of minerals.
    • Horizon C- it is called regolith. It consists of broken-up particles of the parent rock.
    • Horizon R- here, in this layer is the parent rock found. It is the unweathered rock that decides the soil type.
