Open in App
Solution

Epithelial tissue:

  1. Epithelial cells are the thin protective coverings that line most of the organs and cavities within the body.
  2. The cells of the epithelium are tightly packed together having no spaces between them.
  3. Based on the shapes of the cells they are further classified into squamous, cuboidal, and columnar epithelium.

Functions of the epithelium:

  1. It supports and protects the internal organs.
  2. It does not allow the entry of the germs into the body.
  3. Epithelial tissue in your glands can secrete enzymes, hormones and fluids.
  4. The epithelial lining of your internal organs, such as your liver, and lungs, can allow the absorption of certain substances.
  5. Excretion is the removal of waste from your body.
  6. The epithelial tissue in your kidneys excretes waste, and the epithelial tissue in your sweat glands excretes sweat.
