Explain the system of ‘chain of tanks’.
Solution:
People of Dokur village devised the system of a 'chain of tanks’ to store rainwater systematically so that it could be used during the months after the monsoon is over.
The main tank in the Dokur village is Pedda cheruvu. It gets water only when the tank of Devarakadra is filled, around 5 km from Dokur village.
When Pedda cheruvu of Dokur is filled with that water, it flows to other tanks like Chakali Koyikunta, Vani Vampu and Badi and Vampu, which are smaller in the chain and get filled after the earlier ones in the chain get filled.
All these tanks near Dokur were excavated long ago to store rainwater systematically.
