  • Ion:
    Ion, is any atom or group of atoms that bears one or more positive or negative electrical charges. Positively charged ions are called cations; negatively charged ions, are anions.
  • Ions are formed by the addition of electrons to, or the removal of electrons from, neutral atoms.

Anion:

  • Anions are negatively charged ions.
  • They are formed when non-metal gains the electrons.
  • They gain one or more than one electron and do not lose any protons.
  • Therefore, they possess a net negative charge.
  • Examples of anions are Iodide (I-), Chloride(Cl-), Hydroxide (OH-).
