  2. The components of the blood are plasma and formed elements - erythrocytes (RBCs), leucocytes (WBCs), and thrombocytes (platelets).
  3. It performs various functions such as transporting respiratory gases, maintaining the body's pH, immunity, etc.

Blood transfusion:

  1. A mechanism by which the blood from a healthy person is injected into a patient's body who is undergoing an operation or a treatment for injury is known as the blood transfusion.
  2. In blood transfusion, the person who donates the blood is called a donor.
  3. And a person who receives the blood is called a recipient.
  4. In the ABO system, a person with blood group ‘O’ is known as the universal donor.
  5. A person with blood group ‘B’ is known as the universal recipient.
