Explain the term 'green house effect'. What are its benefits? How is it harmful?
Greenhouse effect— The trapping of the earth’s radiated energy by carbon dioxide present in air, so as to keep the earth warm, is called ‘greenhouse effect’.
The greenhouse effect is beneficial because this principle is applied to grow plants in colder regions, maintain a temperature to sustain life around the globe. But too much carbon dioxide increases the temperature of the atmosphere. Due to the rise in temperature; ice in the polar regions may melt, causing floods. So it is harmful to life on earth.
