Varietal improvement is the development of new varieties of crops by combining desirable characteristics in one and multiplying it. Which are more adapted to top local conditions and are better in terms of yield and other characteristics like disease and drought resistance, water requirement, nutrient content etc.

Plant breeders select plant varieties with the desired character and cross them. The developed offspring combine the qualities of both plants. These varieties are multiplied and supplied to farmers.
