Solution

Crucibles

  • A crucible is a container used to hold metal for melting in a furnace and must be able to withstand the extreme temperatures encountered in melting metals.
  • It must also be able to offer resistance to chemical erosion.

Use of graphites in the crucible

  • chemically, graphite is stable and inert with most elements.
  • Being resistant to chemicals and having a high melting point and also because it is a good conductor of heat, graphite is used to make crucibles.
