A crucible is a container used to hold metal for melting in a furnace and must be able to withstand the extreme temperatures encountered in melting metals.
It must also be able to offer resistance to chemical erosion.
Use of graphites in the crucible
chemically, graphite is stable and inert with most elements.
Being resistant to chemicals and having a high melting point and also because it is a good conductor of heat, graphite is used to make crucibles.
