Explain the various properties of air.

Open in App
Solution

Various properties of air are as follows:

We can't see or touch the air around us, as it is invisible.
Air around us is transparent due to which we can see each other and different objects like trees, buildings, etc. through the air.
Air is a colourless, odourless and tasteless mixture of various gases.
Air has mass. For example an inflated balloon will be heavier than a deflated balloon, as there is more air inside the inflated balloon.
Air has volume as we know that if we don’t add air into the balloon, it is empty and shapeless. When you puff air into it, the balloon expands, so you know it is filled with something. Air is taking up space.
Air exerts pressure as we know when air is pumped inside a balloon, it expands in size. This shows that the air inside exerts pressure on the walls of balloon.
