The pBR 322 vector is commonly used plasmid cloning vector in E. coli. In this, B and R stands for Bolivar and Rodriguez respectively. It is 4361 base pairs in length. Its molecular weight is 2.83 x 106 daltons. It contains origin of replication. It contains 2 antibiotic resistance genes, ampicillin and tetracycline. These antibiotic resistance genes are used as selectable markers. This is used to detect the transformants. It has specific restriction sites for 40 different restriction enzymes.
