Question

Explain the working of ammeter and voltmeter. What is ammeter connected in series and why voltmeter in parallel?

Open in App
Solution

An ammeter is an instrument used to measure current and voltmeter is used to measure voltage. The basic working condition is asked by you in the question

The volt meter is connected in parallel because then only we can measure the potential difference or voltage drop in that element or circuit as in the case of parallel resistaces the will have same voltage across it.

The ammeter is connected in series because then only the current will properly pass through it as in the case of series resistance all resistance will have same current through it.
