Solution

During the formation of male and female gametes a process known as meiosis takes place. Meiosis involves a process known as crossing over (exchange of chromosomal fragments) which is responsible for the variation in gametes. When these gametes fused to form a new organism- they will give rise to a organism with different traits other then observed in their parents.
