The three main functions of the Lok Sabha can be classified as:-
1. Legislative Function- A bill to become law must be passed by the Lok Sabha. A bill though can be introduced in either of the houses but it must be passed by the Lok Sabha to become a law. If Rajya Sabha returns the Bill to Lok Sabha and Lok Sabha passes it to Rajya Sabha without any amendments then a situation of deadlock occurs and if this situation persists for at least 6 months a joint sitting is called upon by the President.
2. Executive Function- The council of ministers is responsible for the Lok Sabha. The leader of the majority party in the Lok Sabha becomes the executive head that is the Prime Minister. The ministers which are also the executive of the nation have their offices only will there is confidence in the majority in the Lok Sabha. Power with the Lok Sabha to disapprove of the budget presented by the Government.
3. Financial Functions- A money Bill can be introduced only in Lok Sabha and not in Rajya Sabha. Rajya Sabha cannot hold a bill for more than 14 days. The Speaker of the Lok Sabha decided as to a particular Bill is a money bill or not. The government cannot levy, collect, change or abolish any tax without the prior consent of the Lok Sabha. The fiscal policies cannot be implemented without the consent of the Lok Sabha.
