Explain three major dimensions of poverty.
Three major dimensions of poverty include social exclusion, illiteracy, and vulnerability.
Social Exclusion: It refers to the process of how society excludes individuals from availing certain benefits and faciltiies. The caste system is an example of social exclusion, by which people of the "lower caste" were not allowed access to many public spaces and resources.
Illiteracy: This refers to the absence of the ability to read, write and perform simple algebraic functions. Illitearcy leads to the deficiency of skill, and thus reduces the employability of individuals. This reduces the incomes of illiterate persons.
Vulnerability: The greater probability of poor people remaining poor for a significant period of time is an indication of vulnerability. In situations with adverse impacts, it is likely that poor people will affected in the worst manner. For example, in the event of a breakout of a disease, the poor people will be most affected as they will not have access to good healthcare services.
