Question

Explain trade winds with reference to thermal convection

Open in App
Solution

Dear student, Convection Current is process by which heat is transferred from one part of the fluid to another by movement of the fluid itself. Now considering air as a fluid, the winds blowing at sea from north east in the northern hemisphere or south-east in the southern hemisphere towards the equator, due to the pressure difference (due to substantial difference in temperature) and they are actually flowing from the tropical high pressure region to the low pressure region at the equator. In this way, convection actually supports the fact of trade winds.
