Question

Explain what is air pressure and how is it formed

Open in App
Solution

Dear student the air pressure is defined as force exerted by weight of air onto the surface of earth or air pressure is the weight of air molecules pressing down the earth. The weight of air above us create pressure. The atmosphere extends upto 50km. Suppose a column of air of 1m^2 . Then it has weight of 10000kg so F=ma , putting values in it F=10000×9.8 then F=98000N . As pressure=F/Area , i.e. P=98000/1 which gives P=98000N m^-2. This is pressure of 1m^2 block of air. Regards
