Solution

Progressive Wave:

a2
  1. The transmission of periodic motion from one particle to the next particle in an elastic medium is called a progressive wave.
  2. A wave that continuously travels in a particular direction inside a medium is called a progressive or a traveling wave.
  3. There are two types of progressive waves:

3.1 Transverse waves: These are the type of traveling waves in which the direction of propagation of the wave is perpendicular to the direction of its vibration. For example, electromagnetic waves, including light waves are transverse waves, in which the electric field, magnetic field, and the direction of propagation are all mutually perpendicular to each other.

3.2 Longitudinal waves: These are the type of traveling waves in which the direction of propagation of the wave is in the same direction as its vibration. For example, sound waves are longitudinal waves in which the direction of vibration and direction of propagation of the sound is the same.
