Question

Explain what will happen to a plant cell if it is kept in a solution having higher water potential?

Open in App
Solution

Higher water potential can be seen in case of a hypotonic solution. If the cell is kept in a hypotonic solution then it starts absorbing water. The cell absorbs water and becomes swollen or turgid. This process goes on until the difference in their water potential becomes zero. If the water absorbed is too much for the cell to contain then it bursts.
